Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has advised residents of the state to stay away from the consumption of rat meat until the lassa fever outbreak in the country is contained.
This is as Benue State has recorded the first case of Lassa Fever in the current outbreak.
Speaking with State House Press Corps in Abuja on Monday, Ortom said "though the incident was under control, the people should take preventive measures to contain the spread."
Benue is affected. We have one case right now that is under control. "We have advised our people; rat which is a major carrier of the virus, is a delicacy. I am finding it difficult but I have told them to suspend eating rats now until further notice ," he said.
